Motorola has confirmed that its next-generation folding flip smartphone will be available on June 1. The phone has been teased on Twitter and other social media platforms, but some speculate that the company will release two flip phones. According to some reports, the company is expected to launch a single flip phone under different monikers for different markets. In different markets, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra or Razr 2023 may be marketed.
The company has yet to clarify specifications and design, but more information will be available in the coming days. 91Mobiles and tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore shared a leaked image of the Motorola Razr 2023, also known as the Razr 40 Ultra, earlier this year. The phone appears slimmer in the leaked image than previous generations of flip phones. The image also shows a pink body and two camera sensors on the outside of the screen. The company appears to be considering expanding the viewing area on the outer pane as well.
In terms of processing power, we can expect the phone to include Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, as the previous Razr flip phone did. The camera system is also being improved by the company. The previous model has a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a 13-megapixel secondary rear camera with an ultra-wide angle lens, and a 32-megapixel front camera.
Motorola, like Samsung, has released multiple generations of flip phones, but the most recent models were only available in China. This time, Motorola's global handle announced the release of models in 2023. While the company has not specified a launch date for the Indian market, we can expect it to arrive later given that many OEMs have turned to the country to expand their presence in the folding segment.
Folding flip smartphones have recently become popular, with Oppo being the most recent entrant in the segment with the Oppo Find N Flip. Samsung has already released three generations of Galaxy Z Flip phones, the most recent of which are the Z Flip 4 and Flip 5 that are just around the corner. Last month, Tecno also released its most affordable foldable smartphone in India.
Motorola, too, will release the original Razr in India in 2020 for Rs 1,24,999. It is still listed for the same price on the Motorola India website, but stock is currently unavailable. If Motorola decides to launch a new flip phone in India, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra could be the model. The Motorola Edge 40 will be available in the country later this month. To compete with other brands that offer flip phones in a similar price range, the price may be reduced to Rs 80,000.
